Ben is a 10th Planet Jiu Jitsu brown belt who began his journey as a white belt within the system and worked his way through every level. He's competed across the UK and Europe, winning medals and learning from some of the best coaches in the world. After 16 years living in the UK, he's come home to South Africa to share the experience, knowledge and passion he's gained along the way.
Ben's coaching style is technical, structured and effective - but always supportive. Classes are designed for all levels, whether you’re brand new or experienced. You can expect clear instruction, steady progress, and training that’s challenging, fun and welcoming.
What Ben loves most about Jiu Jitsu isn’t just the technique - it’s the people. The friendships built on the mats, the confidence that grows week by week, and the positive impact training has on your lifestyle. 10th Planet Cape Town is about growth, community and good vibes. Ben is always learning, always evolving and he's here to help you do the same.
Reece van der Merwe is a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt under Chris Bright, with a strong competition background across both local and international events.
At 10th Planet Cape Town, Reece contributes in a specialist capacity, supporting the advanced and competition-focused side of the programme. He will be running occasional sessions and monthly masterclasses, sharing his experience, technical insight and competition knowledge with the team.
Passionate about developing others and raising the overall level in the room, Reece plays an important role in helping build a strong, driven training environment.
TUMELO MANYAMALA
Current EFC Flyweight Champion & professional MMA fighter, 8 fight win streak to the title.
Selected for The Ultimate Fighter
18 years of martial arts experience. Passionate about building an unstoppable team and sharing his knowledge at 10th Planet Cape Town.
Coach Tumelo will be heading up a striking program at 10th Planet Cape Town as we look to build towards an MMA team.
