Why 10th Planet?
10th Planet Jiu Jitsu was founded in Los Angeles in 2003 by Eddie Bravo, after his famous victory over Royler Gracie at the ADCC World Championships. Eddie set out to develop a Jiu Jitsu system built specifically around no-gi grappling and MMA, at a time when training without the traditional gi was still far from the norm.
What started as one academy in California grew into a worldwide network of 10th Planet schools, producing some of the sport's most innovative grapplers and helping shape the evolution of modern no-gi Jiu Jitsu. Known for its unconventional thinking, creative systems and constant evolution, 10th Planet has had a major influence on BJJ, submission grappling and MMA — from lockdown and rubber guard to leg locks, back attacks and dynamic transitions.
10th Planet Cape Town brings that system to Africa. As the continent's only official 10th Planet academy, our members have the opportunity to train within the same global system being developed and practised at 10th Planet academies around the world, right here at the southern tip of Africa.
And we're now taking that philosophy beyond pure grappling. Alongside authentic 10th Planet no-gi BJJ, we're developing a full-spectrum MMA programme incorporating high-level striking and mixed martial arts training, giving members the opportunity to build a complete fight game under one roof.
Whether you've never stepped onto a mat before or you're an experienced competitor, you'll train in an environment that values technical skill, experimentation and continuous improvement.
